Secret Keeper is a new duo project co-led by instrumentalists/composers Stephan Crump and Mary Halvorson. The performances feature both previously-composed pieces as well as spontaneous compositions. Their debut recording, Super Eight, will be released spring 2013 on the Intakt label.
Grammy-nominated, Memphis-bred bassist/composer Stephan Crump is a rising light on the New York music scene. As collaborator with mainstream jazz luminaries, downtown explorers, singer/songwriters and others, he has become known for the elegance and purposeful groove of his acoustic and electric bass playing, and for transforming his instrument into a speaking entity with magnetic pull on audiences. As a composer, he is emerging as a singular voice.
Guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson has been active in New York since 2002, following jazz studies at Wesleyan University and the New School. Critics have called Ms. Halvorson “NYC’s least-predictable improviser” (Howard Mandel, City Arts), “the most forward-thinking guitarist working right now” (Lars Gotrich, NPR.org) and “one of today’s most formidable bandleaders” (Francis Davis, Village Voice). In addition to her longstanding trio, featuring bassist John Hébert and drummer Ches Smith, and her quintet, which adds trumpeter Jonathan Finlayson and alto saxophonist Jon Irabagon, Ms. Halvorson also co-leads a chamber-jazz duo with violist Jessica Pavone, the avant-rock band People and the collective ensembles Thumbscrew, Reverse Blue and Secret Keeper. She is also an active member of bands led by Tim Berne, Anthony Braxton, Taylor Ho Bynum, Tomas Fujiwara, Curtis Hasselbring, Ingrid Laubrock, Myra Melford, Marc Ribot, Tom Rainey and Matthew Welch among others.

Aerosol Constellations is a free improv duo based in Vancouver, Canada. Coming forth 7 years ago from the cities then-burgeoning Fake Jazz community, the duo was formed by Bill Batt (Stamina Mantis) and Jeremy Van Wyck (Shearing Pinx , Mongst) as an act to kick off the weekly they had begun (fake Jazz Wednesdays). Utilizing field recordings, samples and an array of instruments electric and acoustic. The duo spends most of its time exploring the dark corners of drone and ambient music. Having released a number of cassettes and cdr’s over the years, this spring will find A/C delivering their first full length lp “dark side of the sun” on Isolated Now Waves & Thankless Records as well as releases on Winnipeg’s Prairie Fire Records and Edmontons Ramshackle Day Parade.
fourthousandblackbirds is the new solo project of French experimentalist Albérick (.cut) based in Montreal, Quebec. Albérick is also a founding member of the droning ambient electronics project Montreal Nintendo Orkestar and of the psychedelic noise trio Thee Virginal Brides (Canada / Israel / USA). The essence of fourthousandblack birds is definitely analogue and organic, nature taking over mankind, animal rights, abandoned buildings, empty cities in the morning…
For his very first live performance as fourthousandblackbirds, Albérick will play an improvised set with Will Eilzini (Shalabi Effect).
